- Université Claude Bernard Lyon 1, France
- University of Padua, Italy
The first year is based at ULB and UPC, covering data engineering, analytics and AI fundamentals. In the second year you choose a specialisation partner: TU Wien, Lyon 1 or Padua. The master’s thesis (30 ECTS) is part of that final year.
The specialisation tracks include business and financial data, heterogeneous systems and knowledge-driven data. The programme also works with associated partners from industry and research, which contribute to internships and thesis opportunities.
Scholarship Benefits
Your funding depends on which category you end up in.
| Category | What it covers |
|---|---|
| Full scholarship | Tuition, insurance and €1,400 a month for up to 24 months |
| Partial scholarship | Participation costs only, no monthly allowance |
| Self-funded | €4,500 a year (programme country students) or €9,000 a year (partner country students) |
Students can receive a total of €33,600 over two years through the monthly payments of €1,400.
However, students who have already received an Erasmus Mundus Joint Master’s scholarship cannot get another full scholarship for the DEAI program.
Students who are accepted but do not receive a scholarship can still join the program by paying their own tuition fees and other expenses.
Eligibility Requirements
You need:
- A bachelor’s degree worth 180 ECTS from a recognised university
- English at level B2
The degree must come from a university listed in WHED, or in the Times Higher Education, ARWU or QS rankings. The programme targets computer science graduates, and the share of computer science credits in your degree is actually scored.
Final-year students can apply before they receive their diploma. All nationalities are welcome.
A B2 certificate such as IELTS Academic 5.5 or TOEFL paper-based 570 is the example the programme gives.
How Your Application Is Scored
Applications are scored on six categories:
- Bachelor’s subject (share of computer science credits)
- Academic results
- Other studies
- Professional experience
- Cover letter
- Reference letters
A joint committee ranks everyone into a selected list and a reserve list. Under Erasmus+ rules, no more than 10% of selected applicants can share a nationality.
The cover letter and reference letters are both scored, so neither is a formality. Spend real time on the letter. A short, specific explanation of why you want data engineering and AI, backed by projects you have actually built, will do more than general enthusiasm.
Documents you need:
- Online application form
- Proof of your bachelor’s degree, or proof you are in your final year
- Proof of English at level B2
- Cover letter
- Reference letters
- CV,
- Transcripts
- ID
