IMFSE Admission Requirements

Academic Requirements

• You need a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (or equivalent) from an accredited university.
• Your degree should include at least 3 years of full-time study or 180 ECTS credits.
• Relevant academic backgrounds include:
  • Civil, Structural, Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, or Industrial Engineering
  • Materials Science
  • Chemistry
  • Physics or Applied Physics
  • Architecture
  • Urbanism and Spatial Planning
  • Other related fields
• Final-year students can also apply.
• However, you must complete your required degree before the IMFSE programme starts.

English Language Requirements

You can meet the English requirement through one of these tests:

• IELTS Academic: 6.5 overall with at least 6.0 in each section
• TOEFL iBT: 4.5 overall with at least 4.0 in each section
• TOEFL iBT: 92 overall with at least 20 in each section
• Oxford ELLT: 7 overall with at least 6 in each section
• Trinity ISE: ISE II with distinction in all four sections
• C1 Advanced / C2 Proficiency: 176 overall with at least 169 in each section
• Oxford Test of English Advanced: 145 overall, with at least 135 in each section

Important points:

• IELTS One Skill Retake is not accepted.
• TOEFL MyBest Score is not accepted.
• Your English test should generally be no more than 2 years old when the programme begins.
• Studying in English does not automatically give you an exemption.
• Any exemption must be requested and approved by the IMFSE Selection Committee.
• Check the latest University of Edinburgh English language requirements, as they may change.

Degree Verification

• Since October 2025, Ghent University has been using Qualification Check to verify academic qualifications and documents internationally.
• Applicants may be required to authenticate their degrees and academic documents through this service.
